The story of a photographer
My name is Marcus Peoples and I'm a photographer based in Sumter, South Carolina. I've always had a "thing" for photography as far back as I can remember. When I was younger my mother would always keep a Polaroid or Kodak disposable camera on hand whenever we had a family outing. My parents always had lots of photos in photo albums that were always a pleasure to reminisce and gaze upon over the years.
Throughout my young adulthood taking photographs had become a part of who I was; especially when I became a father and started a family of my own. I was that parent at my children's sporting events with a camera or cellphone documenting every moment. And on many occasions, nearly about to lose my top whenever I ran short on storage space (lol). It had become very important to me that I capture these moments for them.
It wasn't long before I realized that there was a major difference between "taking pictures" and photography. I eventually purchased my first DSLR camera and immersed myself into the technical side of this craft. I've spent hours studying, taking courses, and understanding how to properly use my equipment. Applying the knowledge I acquired, really took my images to the next level. So much so, that on many occasions people began to ask me what company I shoot for. I was receiving lots of praise from family, friends, and the community regarding the images that I had been taking.
One night after my son's basketball game, I was in the process of reviewing and downloading video and photos I had taken of him and his teammates. My son said, "Dad, these are really good! You should post them on Instagram." I was like, "Instagram....I don't know, I'll think about it." Later that night I was still pondering on whether to start posting on Instagram or not. Then I just started reflecting on a "parental speech" that I would give to my children on occasion; in regard to not living with regret, enjoying every step of your journey and never being afraid to just get out there and "take a shot" at life. At that moment, the light bulb turned on in my head. I had to practice what I preached and lead by example. So, I got on the social media platform Instagram and created the username "Marc Took The Shot". This name would ultimately become a reflection of me taking a shot at life and pursuing something that I was passionate about. My online presence is constantly growing, and I've met a lot of talented and amazing individuals along the way. It really is a pleasure for me to make others happy by capturing images of them at their best.
